Dypsis prestoniana

This species has been sold or collected under many different names over the years some of the names are as follows: Dypsis sp “Mony Mony”, Dypsis canaliculata, Dypsis sp “Big curly” just to name a few, most of these forms look very simular to each other but some can look a little different as juveniles with finer leaves and larger gapes between the leaflets, these normally change with age as the palm matures, as there seems to be more than one locality for this species in habitat, Which would explain the slight difference in the forms seen in cultivation we have today.

In the subtropics this species takes about 12 to 15 years to form a trunk, it will take full sun from quite an early age and seems to grow it’s best in the ground in a well mulched garden, having said that this species seems to be quite tough and handle the cold and dry hard soils just as well only growing a little slower. Once this species does form a trunk it then becomes quite a steady grower and is a very spectacular landscaping palm with huge upright leaves to 4 to 5m long.

We have a limited amount of these available now!!
