Dypsis tsaravoasira
Photo above showing trunk and crownshaft of this species growing on the Sunshine Coast Australia. Just note the colour is much brighter when the old leaf is first removed or has just fallen off.

Dypsis tsaravoasira

This species was first sold under the name Dypsis ceracea for many years and then Dypsis nauseosa..! Now we have the true name for this species which is Dypsis tsaravoasira. Although a little slow growing in the subtropics this species seems to grow very well and grows best in the full sun in a well drained garden bed, they grow fine also in the shade but just a little slower, the new leaf is slightly coloured, from cream to light pink or even a light red, the crownshaft can also have some colour once the old leaf base falls off but this does not normally last for a long time. This species makes a great landscaping palm and likes a well-mulched garden bed and should be planted in a prominent area to appreciate its true beauty!!
